SEBAUH – The first day of Sebauh Agrofest 2026 concluded on 10 July with an energetic turnout and enthusiastic participation from the local community and visitors from surrounding areas. The event showcased a diverse range of activities, blending agriculture, conservation, and community engagement into a vibrant festival atmosphere.
The opening ceremony, officiated by senior leaders from the Sarawak Agriculture Department, set the tone for a day filled with innovation and collaboration. Exhibitions highlighting agricultural technology and agro-based products drew strong interest, offering farmers and entrepreneurs insights into modern practices and new market opportunities.
One of the day’s highlights was the release of 50,000 shrimp seedlings into Sungai Kemena. Organised by the Bintulu Division Agriculture Department, the initiative underscored Sarawak’s commitment to strengthening inland fisheries and ensuring the sustainability of river ecosystems. Officials emphasised that replenishing aquatic resources is vital to supporting local livelihoods and maintaining biodiversity.
Adding to the excitement was the prawn fishing competition at Sebauh Waterfront, which attracted 29 participants. The contest, judged by the weight of the heaviest prawn caught, created a lively and competitive atmosphere. Freddy Paul Giang emerged as champion with a 120-gram prawn, followed by Mohamad Hamzah bin Ramlee and James anak Ibat in second and third place respectively. The event not only entertained but also highlighted the importance of freshwater resources in community life.
Visitors also flocked to the Jualan Agro Sarawakku Sayang programme, organised by FAMA Bintulu Division. The market offered fresh produce, local food items, and agro products at affordable prices. By connecting consumers directly with producers, the initiative supported local entrepreneurs while providing households with access to quality food supplies. Organisers noted that such programmes contribute to strengthening national food security by expanding market access and boosting farmer incomes.
Interactive activities throughout the day encouraged participation from all age groups, reinforcing Agrofest’s role as a community-centred event. Beyond entertainment, these activities served as platforms for knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and awareness building on sustainable agricultural practices.
The Sarawak Agriculture Department, together with its strategic partners, highlighted that Agrofest Sebauh is not merely a promotional event but a comprehensive effort to integrate agriculture with community development. By introducing innovations and showcasing Sebauh’s potential as a competitive agrofood production hub, the festival reflects Sarawak’s broader vision of sustainable growth and food security.
Organisers expressed gratitude to visitors, participants, entrepreneurs, and agencies whose involvement made the first day a success. With strong community support and diverse programming, Agrofest Sebauh 2026 is poised to deliver more engaging activities in the days ahead, further strengthening its reputation as a cornerstone of Sarawak’s agricultural calendar.
