Police Arrest Suspect in Song for Illegal Lottery Sales

SONG – Police in Song carried out an operation under Op Dadu on 11 July 2026, resulting in the arrest of a man suspected of selling public lottery numbers without a licence. The operation was conducted at Kawasan Lapang, Jalan Penghulu Serai, by officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) of IPD Song.

During the raid, police seized a printed paper containing numbers believed to be linked to unlicensed lottery activities, along with cash. The suspect was taken to Song Police Station for further investigation.

Authorities confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Open Gambling House Act 1953, which prohibits the operation or involvement in unlicensed gambling activities.

Song District Police Chief, YDH DSP Benedict Faris Bin Jimoy, stressed that the police remain committed to combating gambling offences in the district. He emphasised that such activities undermine community harmony and peace, and reiterated the importance of public cooperation in reporting suspicious behaviour.

“Police and society are not separate,” he said, highlighting the need for strong collaboration between law enforcement and residents to ensure a safe and orderly environment.

Illegal gambling has long been a concern in Sarawak, with authorities conducting regular enforcement operations to curb its spread. Campaigns such as Op Dadu are part of broader efforts to dismantle unlicensed gambling networks and protect communities from the social and economic harm associated with such activities.

Local residents have been urged to remain vigilant and to provide information to the police if they suspect gambling activities in their areas. Officials noted that community involvement is crucial in ensuring that enforcement measures are effective and sustainable.

The arrest in Song reflects the ongoing determination of Sarawak’s police force to uphold public safety and enforce laws against illegal gambling. By combining enforcement with community cooperation, authorities aim to reduce the prevalence of such offences and safeguard the well-being of residents.
