MIRI – The Taman Tunku Branch Library welcomed a group of 20 students from SJK(C) Chiaw Nan on Thursday, 9 July 2026, for an engaging learning visit designed to promote literacy, creativity, and digital skills. The students, from Year 4 to Year 6, were accompanied by four teachers.
The visit featured a series of interactive activities aimed at broadening the students’ understanding of library services and encouraging them to embrace reading and creativity. The programme began with an introduction to the library’s facilities and services, followed by participation in NILAM activities, which are designed to cultivate reading habits and knowledge exploration.
One of the highlights of the day was a digital poster-making session using Canva, themed “Reading is the Bridge to Knowledge.” This activity allowed students to strengthen their digital literacy while producing creative and informative content. By engaging with digital tools, participants learned how technology can be used to express ideas and promote reading culture.
The programme was further enriched by a decoupage craft activity conducted by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Section of the Miri City Council. This hands-on session encouraged students to explore artistic skills while raising awareness about the creative reuse of materials. The craft activity not only nurtured artistic talent but also promoted sustainability through practical learning.
Organisers noted that the visit had a positive impact on the students, who gained valuable experiences across multiple areas:
- Knowledge cultivation through NILAM activities and exploration of library collections.
- Digital literacy development via Canva poster production.
- Artistic skills enhancement through decoupage crafts and creative reuse practices.
The Taman Tunku Branch Library expressed appreciation to SJK(C) Chiaw Nan for their cooperation and participation, noting that such visits help strengthen ties between schools and libraries while promoting lifelong learning.
