MIRI – The Little One’s Colouring Dream Competition 2026 was held on 11 July at the Piasau Jaya JKKK Recreational Park, organised by the Library Section and Sustainable Development Section of Miri City Council.
The event formed part of the “Green Heroes” Community Tour 2026: Miri City Sustainable Community Tour, in conjunction with the LA21/SDG Adoption Village Programme.
The ceremony was officiated by Mayor Datuk Adam Yii Siew Sang, who praised the initiative for combining creativity with environmental awareness.
A total of 22 kindergarten children from around Piasau Jaya participated, showcasing their artistic talents while learning about sustainability.
The competition aimed not only to highlight children’s creativity but also to instil values of environmental care and sustainable practices from an early age.
Organisers emphasised that nurturing awareness among young learners is crucial to building a generation that values ecological balance and community responsibility.
Beyond the colouring contest, the programme also introduced the local community to digitalisation activities.
Participants and parents were exposed to the use of the Canva application, encouraging digital creativity, as well as the Miri Borneo Park parking payment application, which promotes digital literacy and adoption of online services.
These activities reflected Miri City Council’s broader commitment to integrating sustainability with digital innovation.
The event was seen as a holistic approach to community engagement, combining art, environmental education, and digital skills.
By involving children, parents, and teachers, the programme fostered collaboration and reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in achieving sustainable development goals.
Organisers expressed gratitude to all participants, parents, and teachers for their support and cooperation.
They noted that the competition had successfully provided a platform for children to express themselves artistically while learning about the importance of protecting the environment.
The Little One’s Colouring Dream Competition is expected to continue as part of Miri City’s sustainability agenda, serving as a catalyst for future initiatives that blend creativity, education, and environmental stewardship.
The event concluded with congratulations to all winners and participants, with hopes that the experience will inspire children to become future “Green Heroes” who champion sustainability in their communities.
