UDC Event 2026

The incident occurred at approximately 7.10 pm on 14 July 2026 at the second floor of Nana Bakery, situated along Jalan Bleteh in Kapit. The emergency call prompted the immediate mobilisation of the fire team, who arrived swiftly to address the situation.

Led by the operations unit, the team carried out a controlled extermination procedure to ensure the safety of the premises and its occupants. The intervention was classified as a “special service” operation, a category used by the Fire and Rescue Department for non-fire emergencies that still pose risks to public health and safety.

Upon arrival, the firefighters assessed the site and confirmed the presence of poisonous insects. Using appropriate equipment and safety measures, the team successfully neutralised the threat. The operation concluded only after a thorough inspection was conducted to ensure that the area was secure and free from further danger.

The Fire and Rescue Department has long emphasised the importance of community awareness regarding poisonous insects, which can include species such as hornets, wasps, or other venomous pests. These insects can pose serious risks, particularly in public spaces such as bakeries, restaurants, and schools, where large numbers of people gather.

In Kapit, the Fire and Rescue Department has handled several similar cases in recent years, ranging from bee infestations to hornet nests discovered near residential areas. Such operations are vital in preventing injuries and ensuring that businesses can continue operating safely.

Local authorities have urged residents and business owners to report sightings of dangerous insects immediately rather than attempting to handle them independently. Fire officials have stressed that untrained individuals may inadvertently provoke the insects, leading to attacks and potential medical emergencies.

The Zone 2 Office of the Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that the Nana Bakery incident was resolved without harm to staff or customers. The department reiterated its commitment to responding promptly to all emergency calls, whether fire-related or involving other hazards.

Community leaders in Kapit have praised the firefighters for their professionalism and swift action, noting that their intervention prevented what could have been a serious risk to public health. The incident serves as a reminder of the diverse responsibilities carried out by the Fire and Rescue Department, extending beyond fire suppression to include pest control, rescue operations, and technical assistance.

As Kapit continues to grow, the presence of emergency services remains crucial in safeguarding residents and businesses. The Fire and Rescue Department has encouraged the public to remain vigilant and to use the 999 hotline for immediate assistance in any emergency situation.
