DEBAK – A rescue operation was carried out by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Debak after a cat was found trapped on the roof of a school building, sparking concern that the animal might fall or injure itself.
The incident was reported by a complainant who contacted APM Debak, explaining that the cat had climbed onto the roof but was unable to descend. The situation raised fears among those present, prompting an immediate response from the district’s emergency team.
Upon arrival, APM members conducted a risk assessment to evaluate the safest way to retrieve the animal. Using appropriate equipment designed for animal rescue, the team carefully executed the operation. The cat was successfully captured without harm, ensuring both the safety of the animal and the responders.
Once the rescue was completed, the cat was handed over to the complainant for further care. The operation was officially terminated after the team confirmed that the area was secure and no further risks remained.
Animal rescue cases such as this highlight the diverse responsibilities of the Civil Defence Force, which extends beyond medical emergencies and disaster response to include safeguarding community welfare and protecting animals in distress. In rural and urban areas alike, cats and other pets often find themselves trapped in precarious situations, requiring professional intervention.
The APM has consistently reminded the public to avoid attempting risky rescues themselves, as untrained efforts can lead to injury for both the rescuer and the animal. Instead, residents are encouraged to contact emergency services for assistance.
Community members in Debak have expressed appreciation for the swift and professional action taken by APM personnel. Their intervention not only prevented potential harm to the cat but also reassured the school community that the situation was under control.
This incident underscores the importance of vigilance and cooperation between the public and emergency services. The Civil Defence Force continues to emphasise its readiness to respond to a wide range of emergencies, reflecting its commitment to public safety and community support.
Residents are reminded that emergency assistance can be reached through the 999 hotline or by contacting local APM offices directly.
