Tawau, Dec 3 – The chilling testimony of a student from Lahad Datu Vocational College has shed light on the tragic death of 17-year-old Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat Mohd Narul Azwan, who was reportedly beaten and left in pain in Dormitory Room 5 Belian on the night of March 21.
Testifying in the High Court, the prosecution’s 13th witness and a friend of the victim revealed that Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat had pleaded for help from other students, lamenting that he could no longer endure the pain. However, the desperate cry was silenced by one of the accused, who allegedly told him to “keep quiet.”
Thirteen students, aged between 16 and 19, are on trial for the murder, which allegedly occurred between 9:00 pm on March 21 and 7:38 am the next day. The group faces charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code, read alongside Section 34, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 40 years and caning upon conviction.
During questioning by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ng Juhn Tao, the witness recounted seeing the victim surrounded by nine of the accused in Dormitory Room 5 Belian. The witness claimed that two of the accused began assaulting Mohamad Nazmie Aizzat, with one stepping on and kicking his back repeatedly. Other students in the room allegedly remained silent, and efforts to report the incident were thwarted by threats from the accused.
The case has drawn widespread attention, with Deputy Public Prosecutors Nur Nisla Abd Latif and Ng Juhn Tao representing the prosecution. Defense counsel includes lawyers Datuk Ram Singh, Kamaruddin Mohmad Chinki, and several others representing the 13 accused.
The trial continues as the court delves deeper into the events surrounding this tragic loss of a young life.
