KEMAMAN: A tense incident unfolded at the Padang Astaka Chukai Farmers’ Market today when a mentally disabled man was injured after being hit and kicked by several individuals. The incident, which occurred at around 9:30 AM, caused chaos at the bustling market.

The victim, a 47-year-old man, reportedly rode his motorcycle into the market area and accidentally hit one of the stalls, leading to food products spilling and falling. This act provoked a group of individuals, believed to be traders and customers, to attack him physically.

Acting Kemaman District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Wan Muhamad Wan Ja’afar confirmed the incident and shared further details.

“The man, who is mentally disabled, was assaulted by several individuals after his motorcycle collided with a stall. He has since been taken to Kemaman Hospital for treatment. Police are actively tracking down the suspects involved,” Wan Muhamad said.

Authorities are investigating the case under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries serious legal implications for those found guilty.

The incident gained widespread attention after several video clips went viral on social media. The footage shows the man being punched, kicked in the face, and dragged by two men in the middle of the market. The videos have sparked outrage online, with netizens calling for swift action against those responsible.

Police urge witnesses or anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the investigation.

This unfortunate event highlights the need for increased awareness and empathy toward individuals with disabilities, as well as a reminder for the public to remain calm in challenging situations.
