The incident was reported at 6.24 pm by a member of the public who encountered the blockage while returning home from work.

Recognising the potential danger to motorists, the complainant immediately contacted APM Betong for assistance.

Three APM personnel were mobilised to the site, equipped with a JMC LRV vehicle, personal protective equipment (PPE), and operational tools, including a chainsaw.

Upon arrival, the team ensured safety protocols were followed by donning full PPE before commencing clearance work.

The operation involved cutting and removing the tree to restore access to the main route leading into Betong.

Within a short period, the road was cleared, allowing vehicles to pass without obstruction. The team reported that all equipment functioned effectively, and the operation concluded without incident.

APM Betong confirmed that all members returned safely to the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) once the task was completed.

The agency highlighted the importance of preparedness and the role of specialised equipment in ensuring efficient emergency response.

The Betong District Police Office expressed appreciation to the public for promptly reporting the incident, stressing that community cooperation is vital in maintaining safety and enabling rapid intervention.

Authorities noted that such collaboration ensures hazards are addressed quickly, reducing risks to road users.

Fallen trees are a recurring challenge in Sarawak, particularly during periods of heavy rain and strong winds. Rural districts such as Betong, with extensive vegetation and roadside trees, are more vulnerable to such incidents.

Local authorities continue to remind residents to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions and to report obstructions immediately to relevant agencies.

The Civil Defence Force has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public safety by maintaining readiness for emergencies across the district.

With trained personnel and adequate logistics, APM Betong assures residents that swift action will be taken whenever hazards arise.

This latest case highlights the importance of community vigilance and the effectiveness of coordinated emergency response.

By working together, both the public and emergency services can ensure that roads remain safe and accessible for all.
