BINTULU – The Civil Defence Force (APM) Bintulu successfully carried out an operation to destroy a ground wasp nest at a residential property on Saturday, 16 May 2026.
The incident was reported to the District Operations Control Centre, prompting immediate deployment of personnel to the site.
The nest, located in a breadfruit tree approximately six feet tall, was described as being the size of a takraw ball.
APM members employed a combination of Ridsect spraying and controlled burning to eliminate the threat. The operation was completed without incident, ensuring the safety of the household and surrounding area.
Ground wasp nests can pose significant risks to residents, particularly when located close to homes. Stings from these insects are painful and may cause allergic reactions in vulnerable individuals.
The swift response by APM Bintulu highlights the importance of community vigilance and the role of emergency services in safeguarding public health.
Local authorities have consistently reminded residents to report hazardous insect nests rather than attempting removal themselves.
Improper handling can lead to serious injuries, especially when nests are disturbed. APM’s trained personnel are equipped with protective gear and techniques to manage such situations safely.
This case reflects broader efforts by APM across Sarawak to respond to diverse emergencies, ranging from road accidents and natural disasters to wildlife encounters and pest control. Their readiness ensures that communities in both urban and rural areas receive timely assistance.
Residents are encouraged to contact APM Bintulu through the 999 Emergency Line or the dedicated hotline at 086-318233, which operates around the clock. The agency continues to emphasise its commitment to public safety under the motto “Ready Fast with Integrity”.
Community cooperation remains vital in ensuring effective emergency response. By promptly reporting incidents, residents help reduce risks and enable authorities to act quickly.
APM Bintulu has reiterated its dedication to serving the public, reinforcing its role as a reliable partner in maintaining safety and security across the district.
