Search for Missing Fisherman in Belawai 2nd Day Continues

BELAWAI – Search and rescue teams continued operations for a second day at Pantai Tepi Laut, Belawai, in an effort to locate a fisherman feared to have drowned a couple of days ago.

The incident involved a 48-year-old man who was reported missing on Wednesday while fishing near the coastal village. Witnesses said the victim disappeared suddenly after struggling in the water.

Authorities confirmed that the emergency call was received at 5.44 pm on 18 February, prompting immediate mobilisation of rescue teams.

Eight members of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Tanjung Manis were deployed to the site, using an aluminium boat to search the waters. The operation has focused on the area where the man was last seen, with teams working to cover both the shoreline and nearby waters.

The continuation of the search highlights the challenges faced by rescuers in coastal environments, where currents and tides can complicate recovery efforts. Officials have stressed that the operation will persist until further developments are confirmed.

Pantai Tepi Laut, a popular fishing spot for locals, has seen increased attention following the incident. Community members have expressed concern and are closely monitoring the progress of the search.

The second day of operations reflects the commitment of local agencies to ensure all possible measures are taken in locating the missing fisherman. Updates are expected as the search continues.
