BINTULU – The Bintulu Veterinary Services Department, in collaboration with the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), successfully organised the Anti-Rabies Vaccination, Licensing and Microchip Installation Spot Programme at the parking area of The Spring Bintulu Mall on 28 March 2026.
The initiative received strong support from local pet owners, reflecting growing community awareness of rabies prevention and animal welfare.
Over the course of the programme, 81 doses of anti-rabies vaccine were administered, comprising 40 first-dose injections and 41 booster doses.
In addition, 59 e-licenses were issued to pet owners, while 84 dogs were microchipped for identification and monitoring purposes.
Officials noted that microchipping plays a crucial role in ensuring responsible ownership and effective tracking of pets, particularly in rabies-prone areas.
The BDA expressed appreciation to the Veterinary Services Department for its continued commitment to curbing the spread of rabies in Bintulu.
The collaboration between the two agencies was described as a strategic effort to safeguard public health and animal welfare.
Authorities highlighted that rabies remains a serious concern in Sarawak, and preventive measures such as vaccination and licensing are essential to protect both communities and pets.
The programme also served as a reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership in reducing risks associated with the disease.
As part of ongoing efforts, similar programmes will be extended to other areas, including rural districts such as Tatau and Sebauh.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated on future vaccination and licensing schedules through the official Facebook pages of the Bintulu Development Authority and the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak.
The event demonstrated the effectiveness of joint initiatives in promoting public health awareness and strengthening community resilience against rabies.
With continued cooperation between agencies and active participation from pet owners, Bintulu is working towards a safer and healthier environment for all.
