KUCHING, June 28, 2024 – Ashley Lau Jen Wen, a rising star from Bintulu, Sarawak, has secured her spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking a historic moment in Malaysian golfing history. At just 24 years old, Ashley has clinched the 50th spot in the Olympic Golf Ranking (OGR) for the Women’s category, qualifying her for her debut appearance at the prestigious Olympic Games. The announcement, made by the International Golf Federation, solidifies Ashley’s position as the first Sarawakian golfer to represent Malaysia on this global stage.

A Landmark Achievement

Ashley Lau’s journey to the Olympics has been nothing short of remarkable. Her breakthrough came earlier this year with a standout victory at the Victoria Open, where she emerged victorious in the Women’s PGA of Australasia event. This victory significantly boosted her world ranking and paved the way for her qualification into the Olympic Games.

Road to Paris

In preparation for the Olympics, Ashley has been honing her skills across various international competitions. Following her success at the Victoria Open, Ashley continued to impress with strong performances in the mixed-gender Players Series events in Australia, consistently placing among the top five women competitors.

Family and National Pride

Ashley’s achievement resonates deeply with her family and supporters in Sarawak. Her father, Cecil Lau, expressed immense pride in Ashley’s journey, highlighting her dedication and the significance of her qualification for Malaysia. Ashley herself shared her excitement, describing the opportunity to represent Malaysia at the Olympics as a dream come true.
