KUCHING – Officers from forestry departments across Sarawak, Sabah, and Peninsular Malaysia gathered at Kelab Golf Sarawak on Saturday, 11 July 2026, for a golf tournament held in conjunction with the upcoming 21st Malaysian Forestry Conference (MFC).
The event, organised as part of the pre-conference programme, provided participants with an opportunity to strengthen professional ties in a relaxed and friendly environment.
The tournament was designed to foster camaraderie among forestry professionals while celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship.
After a competitive morning on the course, winners were announced across several categories. In the Nett division, Mohd Firdaus Bohari from the Forest Department Sarawak secured first place, followed by Dato’ Mohd Basri Abdul of the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia in second and Taib Arjani from the Sabah Forestry Department in third.
In the Gross division, Richard Madanan of the Sabah Forestry Department emerged as champion, with Dr Grippin ak Akeng from the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia taking second place, and Azizi Hanif Miskuan, also from Peninsular Malaysia, finishing third.
The team event saw the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia (JPSM) crowned champions, while the Sabah Forestry Department claimed the runner-up position.
The Forest Department Sarawak (JHS) secured third place, rounding off a strong showing from all three regions.
Organisers congratulated the winners and participants, noting that the tournament was not only about competition but also about reinforcing the enduring friendship and cooperation among Malaysia’s forestry fraternity.
The event highlighted the importance of collaboration across regions, particularly as forestry authorities prepare to address pressing issues at the 21st Malaysian Forestry Conference.
The Malaysian Forestry Conference, held every few years, serves as a platform for forestry professionals to discuss policies, share expertise, and explore strategies for sustainable forest management.
The golf tournament, as a prelude to the conference, reflected the organisers’ commitment to building unity and fostering goodwill among participants before the formal sessions begin.
Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage in a sporting activity that encouraged networking and strengthened bonds beyond the professional sphere.
Many noted that the relaxed setting of the golf course provided a valuable chance to connect with colleagues from different regions, paving the way for more effective collaboration during the conference itself.
The tournament also underscored the role of sports in promoting teamwork and resilience, qualities that are equally vital in forestry management.
By bringing together officers from Sarawak, Sabah, and Peninsular Malaysia, the event reinforced the shared responsibility of safeguarding Malaysia’s forests while recognising the diverse expertise across the regions.
As the forestry fraternity looks forward to the official commencement of the 21st Malaysian Forestry Conference, the golf tournament served as a reminder that cooperation and friendship remain central to achieving sustainable outcomes.
The success of the event highlighted how professional relationships can be strengthened through informal gatherings, ultimately contributing to more effective collaboration in addressing forestry challenges.
