Heartwarming Meet-Up: Sarawak Deputy Premier Bonds with Students in Manchester

MANCHESTER, 28 April 2025 — A casual evening turned into a heartwarming gathering as the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian, met with 15 Sarawakian students currently pursuing their undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Manchester, United Kingdom.

Organised by the Sarawak Students Association (SSA), this informal session was filled with smiles, laughter and meaningful conversations. The students were delighted to share their thoughts and experiences abroad while also hearing about the latest developments back home in Sarawak.

The event was made possible with the assistance of SSA President Summer Bay and Amirruddin Ahmat, Organising Chairman of Lan Berambeh 2025 UK & Ireland, along with the support of the SSA committee. Their efforts in gathering young Sarawakian talents in Manchester were deeply appreciated and praised by YB Datuk Amar himself.

In his heartfelt address, Dr. Sim Kui Hian encouraged the students to remain proud of their roots and continue excelling in their studies. He also shared insights on Sarawak’s latest progress, particularly in health, housing, and public services, which generated much excitement among the students.

“Tonight, we’re not just connecting as Sarawakians abroad, but as contributors to our homeland’s future. Your success is Sarawak’s strength,” said Dr. Sim in his closing remarks.

The evening concluded with a group photo and plenty of cheerful conversations, a true display of the strong bond between the Sarawak diaspora and their homeland. Many expressed gratitude for this rare opportunity to engage directly with a leader from home.
