KUCHING, Aug 11: The Sarawak Immigration Department detained 42 foreigners during a late-night enforcement operation targeting suspected immigration offences at several locations in Kuching and Kota Samarahan.
The operation, known as Ops Sapu and Ops Kutip, was carried out by the Enforcement Division of the Kuching Immigration Office from 10pm on Aug 10 until 3am on Aug 11.
Immigration officers conducted inspections at three locations involving shared houses and rented rooms around Jalan Merdang Limau in Kota Samarahan and Batu 6, Jalan Penrissen.
A total of 45 individuals were checked during the operation. Following the inspections, 42 individuals were detained for suspected offences under Section 15(1)(c) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).
The enforcement operation was conducted following complaints from members of the public as well as intelligence gathered by the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division.
The operation reflects the department’s continued efforts to ensure that foreigners residing or working in Sarawak comply with the country’s immigration laws and regulations.
The authorities have repeatedly stressed the importance of immigration compliance, particularly in areas where foreigners are staying in shared accommodation or rental premises.
The latest operation also highlights the role of public information in helping enforcement agencies identify suspected immigration violations.
JIM Sarawak said enforcement operations would continue to be conducted from time to time based on intelligence and information received from members of the public.
The department also called on the public to cooperate by providing information on suspected violations of immigration laws.
The 42 detainees will be subject to further investigation to determine the nature of the alleged offences and the appropriate action under the Immigration Act.
JIM Sarawak’s latest operation serves as a reminder to both foreigners and accommodation providers that immigration requirements must be followed at all times.
Authorities are expected to maintain enforcement efforts across Sarawak as part of measures to strengthen compliance with immigration laws and address suspected violations reported by the public.
