MIRI – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) carried out enforcement operations in Miri this week, inspecting hundreds of vehicles as part of its ongoing road safety campaign.
The initiative, conducted under Ops Extreme and Ops Motosikal, took place at Jalan Kipas, Miri, on Wednesday. The static operation was overseen by Dato’ Muhammad Kifli bin Ma Hassan, Senior Director of JPJ Malaysia’s Enforcement Division, who was present to monitor the activities.
He was joined by Deputy Director of JPJ Sarawak, Mr. Mohamad Faizal David bin Jemat, and Head of JPJ Miri Branch, Ms. Nurul Fairezzah binti Safri.
A total of 375 vehicles of various types were inspected during the exercise. Officers identified several offences, including driving without a valid licence, failure to wear seatbelts, expired licences, registration numbers not meeting specifications, and technical issues relating to vehicle condition.
In addition, three motorcycles and two cars were seized due to expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) and lack of insurance coverage. JPJ confirmed that all enforcement actions were carried out in line with existing legal provisions.
The operation reflects JPJ’s continued efforts to strengthen compliance with road regulations and ensure public safety. Officials stressed that such checks are necessary to reduce risks on the road and to remind motorists of their responsibilities.
JPJ Sarawak has urged all vehicle owners to ensure their licences, insurance, and LKM remain valid, and to verify that registration plates and technical aspects of their vehicles meet required standards before driving.
The department also highlighted that enforcement activities will be intensified across the state, with more patrols and monitoring planned to safeguard road users.
Road safety remains a priority for JPJ, with the department emphasising that adherence to regulations is essential for reducing accidents and protecting lives.
The latest operation in Miri is part of a broader strategy to encourage responsible driving and reinforce the importance of compliance among motorists.
