KUCHING – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized two luxury vehicles during an enforcement operation conducted around Kuching city on 23 September 2026.
The action was taken during “Ops Luxury”, an operation carried out by the Kuching JPJ Operations Unit involving patrols and monitoring activities in the city.
The two vehicles were stopped and inspected during the operation. Checks found that both had expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM) as well as expired insurance coverage.
Sarawak JPJ said the detected offences and subsequent seizure of the vehicles were carried out in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.
The operation focused on monitoring vehicles on the road and checking compliance with requirements governing their lawful use.
A valid Motor Vehicle Licence is required for vehicles operating on public roads, while insurance coverage provides the required protection associated with road use. JPJ urged vehicle owners to ensure that both remain valid before driving.
Sarawak JPJ advised vehicle owners and users to check the status of their LKM and insurance coverage before taking their vehicles onto public roads.
The department said keeping these documents and coverage valid was part of complying with road transport requirements and was also important for the protection of road users.
“Ops Luxury” forms part of the enforcement activities conducted by Sarawak JPJ to monitor compliance with road traffic laws. The latest operation involved patrols and inspections in and around Kuching city.
According to the department, responsibility for ensuring a vehicle is properly licensed and insured rests with its owner and user. Failure to maintain valid documentation can result in enforcement action when the vehicle is inspected.
The seizure of the two vehicles followed the discovery of the expired LKM and insurance coverage during the checks. JPJ did not provide further details about the vehicles, including their makes, models or the duration for which the licences and insurance had expired.
Sarawak JPJ said it would continue carrying out patrols, monitoring and enforcement operations as part of efforts to improve compliance with road traffic laws.
The department also reiterated its advice to vehicle owners to verify their documentation before using their vehicles on public roads, particularly the validity of the LKM and insurance coverage.
Regular checks of these requirements can help vehicle users avoid operating vehicles without the necessary valid documentation and ensure that they meet the legal requirements for road use.
JPJ said continued enforcement would be undertaken to promote consistent compliance with road traffic regulations across Sarawak.
