MTCP Sarawak Hosts First Joint KIK Mini Convention and Awards

KUCHING – The Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP), together with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED), has jointly organised the 2026 Innovative and Creative Group (KIK) Mini Convention and Awards Ceremony, marking the first collaboration of its kind.

Held from 10 to 12 June at the Pullman Hotel, Kuching, the event brought together 17 groups and more than 120 participants from across Sarawak.

The highlight was the KIK Awards Ceremony, officiated by YB Dato Sri Haji Abd Karim Rahman Hamzah, who serves as Minister for both MTCP and MYSED.

The convention was part of Sarawak Public Service Innovation Month 2026, themed “From Ideas to Impact”.

The programme emphasised the importance of transforming creative concepts into practical outcomes that improve public trust and community well-being. A special video montage showcased how innovative ideas have been translated into tangible results.

Participants competed in categories such as Main Winner, Best Innovation, Best Presentation and Best Exhibition.

The competition was described as intense, with projects designed to be replicated and adopted by government agencies, private organisations, NGOs and local communities.

For MTCP, the CITRA Group from the Sarawak Tourism Board won the championship with its JPT E-PROTRACK innovation project, while the MUSES Group secured second place with its VISTA inventory tracking application.

In the MYSED category, the OPTIMUS Group emerged as champion with its BINOVA project, while IMPACT V3NUS took second place with the AURORA application.

MASPINE claimed third place with its Intelligent Roller Cutting Machine, followed by the Creative Catalyst Crew in fourth with the Smart Sweeper Clean Bot X, and the Carabao Warriors in fifth with the MyTeckTow detection kit.

Special awards went to OPTIMUS for Best Innovation, Creative Catalyst Crew for Best Presentation, and IMPACT V3NUS for Best Exhibition.

The ceremony also honoured Encik Dolhadi Haji Mazuki, former Deputy Permanent Secretary of MYSED, with a souvenir presentation recognising his contributions. Appreciation was extended to evaluation panels that played a crucial role in assessing the projects.

Organisers stressed that the convention was more than a competition, serving as a strategic platform to drive innovation in public service delivery.

It aligns with Sarawak’s Post-COVID Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), the Sustainable Development Goals, and the state’s digital economy and sustainability blueprints.

Speakers highlighted the importance of embracing digitalisation, artificial intelligence and green technology to strengthen decision-making processes.

The event also underscored the whole-of-government approach, promoting shared values and a synergistic work culture to sustain organisational excellence.

Through this convention, MTCP and MYSED reaffirmed their role as drivers of innovation, encouraging a shift towards results-orientated, people-centred practices that enhance service delivery and contribute to Sarawak’s prosperity.
