BAU – Residents of Serembu now enjoy improved road connectivity following the completion of the RM1.7 million Kopit-Segubang Road rehabilitation and reconstruction project under the Greater Kuching Development Coordination Agency (GKCDA).
The 1.5km road project, which took about a year to complete, was officially handed over during a ceremony at Kampung Kopit on Wednesday.
The event was witnessed by Serembu assemblyman Dato Miro Simuh, alongside Bau District Officer Danny Ngumbang, Serembu District Penghulu Ranit Rujah, and representatives from the Bau District Council.
The upgraded road is expected to ease travel for residents, particularly those in Kampung 5S, while enhancing access to Kuching and Siniawan.
Local leaders believe the facility will stimulate socio-economic growth in the area and encourage the development of new settlements, aligning with broader plans for Serembu’s development.
Dato Miro emphasised that the Sarawak government, through GKCDA, will continue to implement development projects in stages to strengthen basic infrastructure and improve community welfare.
He noted that quality road networks not only enhance connectivity but also contribute to sustainable rural development and inclusivity.
“The provision of quality road networks increases connectivity between communities and boosts sustainable rural development,” he said, highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring infrastructure projects benefit all sections of society, especially those in rural areas.
The Kopit-Segubang Road project reflects Sarawak’s wider strategy to improve accessibility and support local communities.
Better road infrastructure is seen as a catalyst for economic activity, enabling smoother transport of goods, easier access to markets, and improved mobility for residents.
Community members have welcomed the completion of the project, noting that reliable road access is vital for daily life and long-term development.
The new road is expected to reduce travel time, improve safety, and provide opportunities for businesses to expand.
The Sarawak Government has pledged to continue prioritising infrastructure projects under GKCDA, reinforcing its vision of inclusive development that reaches even the most remote areas.
The Kopit-Segubang Road stands as a tangible example of this commitment, offering residents a more sustainable and connected future.
