KUCHING – Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) has issued a statement distancing itself from reports of an alleged attempted disclosure of information involving a former manager of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS).

The clarification came after media coverage of ongoing court proceedings, which alleged that the former PETRONAS employee had attempted to email information to PETROS. In response, PETROS stressed that it was not involved in the matter.

“PETROS is not in any way privy to the alleged attempted disclosure of information,” the company said in its statement on Friday.

The company urged the public and media outlets to exercise caution and avoid publishing or circulating defamatory claims about PETROS or its officers in relation to the case. It emphasised that it respects the legal process and will not interfere with the proceedings.

PETROS further noted that it would take all necessary measures to protect its employees and safeguard its corporate interests.

The statement reflects the company’s stance on maintaining transparency and accountability while ensuring that its reputation is not compromised by external allegations.

The case involving the former PETRONAS manager has drawn attention due to the sensitive nature of information within Malaysia’s oil and gas sector.

PETROS, established by the Sarawak Government to manage the state’s oil and gas resources, has played a significant role in strengthening Sarawak’s energy autonomy since its formation.

Industry observers highlight that the clarification is important in reinforcing PETROS’s position as a responsible state-owned entity.

By distancing itself from the alleged disclosure attempt, the company aims to reassure stakeholders of its commitment to lawful and ethical practices.

The matter remains before the courts, and PETROS has reiterated its respect for the judicial process. The company’s statement underscores its determination to remain focused on its mandate of managing Sarawak’s energy resources while avoiding involvement in unrelated legal disputes.
