Kuching DBKU Cracks Down on Reckless Street Sign Climbers

KUCHING – Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) has expressed serious concern over a recent video circulating on TikTok, showing three individuals climbing street sign structures and lamp posts in the city.

DBKU emphasized that such reckless behaviour poses significant risks to personal safety and could result in damage to public property, tarnishing Kuching City’s reputation. The local authority stressed that these actions are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Under By-Law 22(1)(b) of the Local Authorities (Cleanliness) By-laws, 1999, pasting any materials such as stickers or posters on street signs without permission is an offence. Offenders may face fines of up to RM1,500, with subsequent offences punishable by an additional RM3,000 fine or imprisonment of up to nine months per offence.

Following this incident, DBKU announced it will lodge a police report to investigate the matter further under laws pertaining to public order. The authority warned that disrespectful actions such as these constitute a serious violation of public decency and morality.

DBKU also reminded the public to maintain good conduct and to respect public facilities to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone. “The cooperation of all residents is essential in keeping Kuching clean, safe, and livable,” the statement said.

City officials continue to urge the community to refrain from dangerous or indecent acts, stressing that upholding public order is crucial for the prosperity and image of Kuching.
