Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening social protection policies with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim chairing the 9th Meeting of the Malaysian Social Protection Council (MySPC), No. 2 of 2025.
The meeting, held on 9 December in Kuala Lumpur, focused on enhancing coordination across government agencies and ensuring that programmes are implemented inclusively to benefit all segments of society.
The Prime Minister stressed that inclusivity must remain central to the national agenda, with programmes covering the entire country and extending to essential services such as rehabilitation centres.
He further highlighted the importance of reviewing existing laws and regulations to accelerate the implementation of initiatives, ensuring they deliver maximum impact to the people.
“Social protection programmes must be inclusive, covering the entire nation and all segments of society,” Anwar said, underscoring the urgency of reforms.
A key highlight of the meeting was the recognition of Malaysia’s growing role on the global stage. The Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) was congratulated on its reappointment as President of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) for the 2026–2028 term.
This achievement was described as a significant honour for Malaysia, reflecting international confidence in the country’s leadership in social security matters.
The council also reviewed improvements to the PADU system, spearheaded by the Ministry of Economy, which aims to streamline data management and enhance the delivery of social protection services.
Working papers presented by SOCSO, the World Bank, and the Ministry of Economy provided further insights into strengthening Malaysia’s social protection ecosystem, with emphasis on efficiency, inclusivity, and sustainability.
Additionally, the publication of the Malaysian Social Protection Statistics 2024 was acknowledged as an important reference tool.
The report is expected to guide policymakers in improving the effectiveness of social protection delivery nationwide, ensuring that programmes are evidence-based and responsive to the needs of the population.
The MySPC meeting reflects the MADANI government’s broader vision of building a resilient and inclusive social protection framework.
By combining domestic reforms with international recognition, Malaysia is positioning itself as a regional leader in advancing social security and inclusive development.
