MIRI – The third instalment of the Miri City Sustainable Community Tour Programme reached Kampung Pangkalan Lutong on 25 July 2026, bringing a blend of environmental education and technological engagement to local residents.
Organised by the Library Section in partnership with the Sustainable Development Section of the Miri City Council (MCC), the event aimed to strengthen community ties while promoting sustainable living practices and digital competence.
The initiative, titled Green Heroes’ Community Tour 2026, forms part of an ongoing series designed to empower citizens through accessible learning opportunities.
By holding the event at the town hall in Lutong, organisers sought to reach a diverse demographic, including young children, their parents, and older members of the community.
The programme underscored the council’s broader strategy to integrate sustainability into everyday life through education and interactive participation.
A key highlight of the day was a colouring competition that attracted significant interest from both younger and older participants.
Twenty-five children took part, divided into two age groups: four to six years, and seven to nine years. Additionally, sixteen adults joined the contest, demonstrating that creative expression and environmental awareness are not limited by age.

These activities, which included tasks such as Explore the World of the Library and Match the SDG Goals, were designed to make learning about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) both engaging and practical.
By linking physical locations and library resources with digital content, the council aimed to bridge the gap between traditional knowledge sources and modern technology.
The inclusion of QR codes served a dual purpose. Firstly, it encouraged participants to develop basic digital skills, such as scanning codes and navigating online information.
