Naked Man’s Body Found Floating in Rajang River, Sibu

SIBU, 9 April 2025 — A shocking discovery was made this afternoon when the body of a naked man was found floating face-down in the Rajang River near Sibu. The unsettling sight was first brought to public attention through a six-minute viral video uploaded by Facebook user ‘SARAWAKIAN’, which quickly drew concern from netizens across the state.

According to Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, the body was discovered around 1.30 pm by the Marine Police team following a public tip-off from the viral social media post. The man, estimated to be around five feet tall and bald, had no clothes on and was found with a red string tied loosely around his neck.

“Initial checks showed no signs of injury or struggle. The identity, age, and race of the deceased remain unknown at this time,” said Zulkipli in a press statement released later in the evening.

The body was immediately taken to the Sibu Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. Police have classified the case as a sudden death, pending further investigation.

Authorities are urging members of the public who may have missing relatives or any information that could help with the case to step forward. They can contact the nearest police station or reach out directly to the Case Investigating Officer, Sub-Inspector Donny Lai at 084-211221.

This latest incident has sparked widespread discussion online, with many calling for improved surveillance and patrolling along major riverbanks, especially in urban areas like Sibu where such tragedies have occurred in the past.
