Police Crack Down on Overloaded Palm Oil and Timber Lorries in Meradong Operation

Meradong, 11 November 2025 – The Meradong District Police Headquarters (IPD) has taken firm action against unsafe commercial transport activities under a targeted enforcement known as Op Perdagangan, launched earlier today.

The operation, carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, focused on identifying and penalising commercial vehicles carrying excessive or dangerous loads. Such offences are governed by the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Road Traffic Rules, both of which aim to protect public safety and prevent road mishaps caused by overloaded vehicles.

According to the police, several vehicles were detained during the operation, including four-wheel drives transporting palm oil and lorries carrying timber with unsafe and excessive loads. These actions not only breached road laws but also posed serious safety risks to other motorists on public roads.

“Overloaded and dangerously loaded vehicles can easily lose control, especially on uneven or winding roads, leading to potential accidents. Our focus is to ensure all commercial drivers adhere strictly to load limits and safety guidelines,” said a police spokesperson.

The authorities stressed that Op Perdagangan is part of continuous enforcement efforts to maintain order and discipline among commercial drivers operating within the district. The police also reminded transport companies and vehicle owners that safety must always take precedence over profit.

The Meradong IPD confirmed that such operations will continue to be held regularly, especially in areas known for heavy commercial activity, to ensure compliance with road safety laws and to protect all road users from potential hazards caused by overloaded vehicles.
