MIRI – Residents of Taman Piasau Jaya now have access to newly completed playground facilities, following the successful implementation of a project funded under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP). The playground, inspected on 11 July 2026 at 9.45 AM, has already become a popular spot for children and families in the neighbourhood.
Miri City Council Mayor Adam Yii, who visited the site, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the project. He noted that the facilities were well received by the community and highlighted feedback from local leader KK Piasau Jaya, Saufi, who confirmed that the playground is frequently used by children in the area.
The RTP initiative, which channels government allocations into grassroots development, has been instrumental in improving infrastructure across Sarawak. In Piasau Jaya, the playground represents a tangible improvement in community amenities, offering a safe and engaging environment for young residents.
Mayor Yii emphasised the council’s commitment to addressing the needs of local communities. He stated that more projects of this nature would be implemented to enhance the quality of life for residents, underscoring the importance of listening to community feedback when planning future developments.
Playgrounds are widely recognised as essential spaces for childhood development, providing opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and creative play. In urban areas such as Miri, they also serve as communal hubs where families can gather, strengthening neighbourhood ties.
The completion of the Piasau Jaya playground reflects broader efforts by the Miri City Council to balance infrastructure growth with social well-being. While large-scale projects often dominate headlines, smaller initiatives like this one demonstrate how targeted investments can directly benefit everyday life.
Local residents have welcomed the new facility, noting that it provides a safe alternative to playing in open streets or less secure areas. Parents in particular have expressed relief that their children now have a dedicated space designed with safety and enjoyment in mind.
The RTP programme has been a cornerstone of Sarawak’s development agenda, aiming to bridge gaps between urban and rural communities. By funding projects that respond to local priorities, it ensures that resources are channelled into initiatives that deliver immediate and visible benefits.
Mayor Yii’s inspection of the playground also served as a reminder of the council’s ongoing role in monitoring and maintaining public facilities. Ensuring that such amenities remain in good condition is vital to sustaining their long-term impact.
As Miri continues to expand, the provision of recreational spaces will remain a key focus for city planners. The Piasau Jaya playground stands as an example of how community-centred projects can foster healthier lifestyles, encourage outdoor activity, and promote social cohesion.
The council has pledged to continue engaging with residents to identify further opportunities for development. With strong community support and effective use of RTP allocations, similar projects are expected to follow, reinforcing the city’s commitment to inclusive growth.
