The arrest was conducted by officers from the Narcotic Criminal Investigation Division of Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD Kuching) at approximately 3.15pm in the Kampung Panglima Seman area. Following the arrest, a search revealed substances suspected to be syabu, weighing 6.24 grams. The estimated market value of the drugs is RM68,600.

A preliminary urine screening test on the suspect returned positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Police also confirmed that the individual has two prior criminal records.

The suspect has been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for four days, from 13 to 16 July 2026, to assist with investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, the offence carries a prison sentence of not less than two years and not more than five years, along with a mandatory whipping of between three and nine strokes.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu stated that the success of the operation was the result of continuous intelligence gathering and cooperation from the public. He emphasised that the Royal Malaysian Police will not compromise with any party involved in drug distribution, possession, or protection of drug-related activities.

“Drugs are the nation’s number one enemy. The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department is committed to fighting drugs for the protection of the present and future generation,” ACP Alexson said in the media statement released on 12 July 2026.

Authorities have urged members of the public to continue providing information to assist in combating drug-related crimes. Information can be channelled through the JSJN hotline at 012-208 7222 or the JSJN IPK Sarawak hotline at 017-592 9211.

The police reiterated that drug abuse remains a serious offence under Malaysian law, and enforcement efforts will continue to be strengthened to safeguard communities. The arrest in Kampung Panglima Seman reflects ongoing efforts to curb drug distribution networks in Sarawak, with law enforcement agencies working closely with local communities to ensure public safety.
