Gerik District Police Chief, Superintendent Abdul Samad Othman, said the police received a report of the incident at about 1.50am.

According to him, the Toyota Vios driven by the victim was travelling from Gerik towards Kuala Kangsar when the accident occurred.

“At the time of the crash, the victim’s car was following behind a trailer transporting logs. A fertiliser-laden trailer, coming from the opposite direction, is believed to have skidded and struck the right side of the log trailer.

“The impact caused both heavy vehicles to collide, before the fertiliser trailer crossed into the opposite lane and rammed into the victim’s car,” he said in a statement.

The 23-year-old driver of the fertiliser trailer sustained a head injury and was taken to Taiping Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the 59-year-old driver of the log trailer escaped unhurt.

Superintendent Abdul Samad said the victim’s body was taken to the Gerik Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem.
