MIRI – The Sarawak Chief Government Security Office (CGSO) Key Target Unit, together with the Sarawak State Key Target Sub-Committee (JKPKSP), conducted a working visit to the Liku River Water Treatment Plant on Wednesday, 24 June 2026.
The inspection was led by State Director of Sarawak CGSO, Mr Zainor bin Zailan, accompanied by Mr Mike Palmer son of Frankie Riya.
Members of the JKPKSP also joined the visit, representing agencies including the Sarawak Police Contingent (IPK), the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), the Sarawak State National Security Council (MKN), and the Fire and Rescue Department.
Officials from the Miri Division Resident’s Office, Miri City Council, Sarawak State Control and Enforcement Unit, Miri Environment Department and Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD) were also present.
The visit was facilitated by Mr Rex Chua Chung Cheak, Head of Security at Sarawak Water, alongside the plant’s manager.
The delegation carried out a physical inspection of the facility and held discussions on potential security threats.
The focus was on assessing vulnerabilities and identifying measures to strengthen protection at the installation, which is categorised as one of Sarawak’s critical targets.
The Liku River Water Treatment Plant plays a vital role in supplying clean water to Miri and surrounding areas. Ensuring its safety is considered essential for public health and community resilience.
The inspection highlighted the importance of safeguarding infrastructure against risks that could disrupt essential services.
Authorities emphasised that the visit was part of ongoing efforts to enhance security standards across Sarawak’s critical installations.
By involving multiple agencies, the inspection aimed to foster collaboration and ensure that security measures are comprehensive and effective.
The CGSO Sarawak reaffirmed its commitment to continuous monitoring and improvement of protective strategies.
Officials noted that such visits are crucial in identifying gaps, strengthening coordination among agencies, and ensuring readiness to respond to potential threats.
The inspection concluded with a pledge to maintain vigilance and reinforce security frameworks at key facilities across the state.
