KUCHING – The State Banquet held at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building in Petra Jaya marked a significant moment of unity and cooperation among Sarawak’s leadership.
The event was organised in conjunction with the Opening Ceremony of the First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly.
The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, attended the banquet accompanied by his daughter, Puan Dayang Norjihan.
Their arrival was warmly received by Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Asfia bin Awang Nasar, Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, alongside cabinet ministers, assembly members and distinguished guests.
The evening reflected a spirit of consensus and goodwill, highlighting the importance of collaboration in maintaining administrative stability and advancing Sarawak’s development agenda.
The Premier took time to engage with state leaders, civil servants and attendees, acknowledging their dedication and contributions to the progress of the state.
His Excellency the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, also graced the occasion.
Their presence underscored the significance of the banquet as a platform for strengthening ties among leaders and dignitaries.
The ceremony began with a cultural performance entitled “Sarawak Maju Makmur”, symbolising the unity and prosperity of the people.
This was followed by prayers led by Sahibul Fadilah Ustaz Haji Mohammad Ihsan bin Haji Haidzir, Deputy Grand Imam of Sarawak, before guests were served dinner.
Entertainment throughout the evening showcased Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage. The Sarawak Art Council presented a special performance highlighting the state’s artistic traditions, while renowned local talents such as Dewi Liana Seriestha, Gabriel Mawat and Ng Chien Chien captivated the audience with musical performances. The finale, “Joget Kenangan Manis”, brought the evening to a lively close.
The banquet was attended by a wide range of dignitaries, including Deputy Premiers of Sarawak, ministers, deputy ministers, government officials, and representatives from Sabah.
Among them were YB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Kadzim M. Yahya, Speaker of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Noraini Salleh.
Beyond its ceremonial role, the banquet served as a reminder of the collective responsibility shared by Sarawak’s leadership in ensuring the state’s continued growth and well-being. The event highlighted the importance of unity, cultural pride and cooperation in shaping Sarawak’s future.
