Sarawak Youth Recognised as Key Partners in State Development

LIMBANG – Youth in Sarawak have been described as not only the future generation but also as strategic partners in driving the state’s development agenda, particularly under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

The message was delivered by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who emphasised that young people play a central role in shaping the state’s progress. He noted that the spirit of volunteerism should be further encouraged to strengthen student participation in development initiatives.

His remarks were conveyed in a speech read on his behalf by Deputy Minister of Consumer Industry, Commodities and Rural Development, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, during the Opening and Closing Ceremony of Youth Day and Limbang Moto Day 3.0, organised by the SABERKAS Bukit Kota Branch on Sunday.

Awang Tengah highlighted the contributions of SABERKAS, the state’s largest youth organisation, which has long been a platform for nurturing student talent and achievements. Since its inception, the association has supported youth through entrepreneurship programmes, volunteer activities, and development initiatives that align with Sarawak’s long-term goals.

In Limbang, the SABERKAS Bukit Kota Branch has been particularly active, hosting a variety of programmes including Youth Day, Limbang Moto Day, the SABERKAS Sports Carnival (CASE), SABERKAS Prihatin, and entrepreneurship activities. These initiatives, he said, have enhanced the organisation’s relevance and strengthened its connection with the community.

He further explained that SABERKAS’ work is consistent with the six aspirations of PCDS 2030: building a sustainable economy, fostering an inclusive society, advancing human capital, ensuring food security, promoting environmental sustainability, and upholding good governance.

The event also drew the participation of several local leaders, including Limbang District Officer Sulaiman Engal, Chairman of Limbang District Council and Mandal Chairman I SABERKAS Bukit Kota, Councillor Sufian Mohat, Mandal Chairman II Councillor Suhaimi Mohamad, and Chairman of the Organising Committee of Youth Day and Limbang Moto Day 3.0, Osman Nordayun.

The gathering underscored the importance of youth engagement in Sarawak’s development journey, with organisers stressing that empowering young people through leadership, volunteerism, and entrepreneurship is vital to achieving the state’s long-term vision.

SABERKAS, which has expanded its reach across Sarawak with dozens of branches and units, continues to play a pivotal role in mobilising young people. Its programmes are designed not only to build skills but also to instil values of responsibility, innovation, and resilience among the younger generation.

The Limbang event reflected this mission, combining cultural, social, and recreational elements to inspire youth participation. By integrating activities such as Moto Day with broader development themes, SABERKAS demonstrated how youth-focused programmes can remain relevant while contributing to the state’s strategic objectives.

As Sarawak moves towards 2030, the role of youth as partners in development is expected to expand further, with organisations like SABERKAS continuing to serve as a bridge between government aspirations and community involvement.
