The incident was reported at 4.34pm to the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of Song District Police. Initial findings revealed that a Perodua Bezza travelling from Kapit to Song is believed to have lost control before veering to the right side of the road at Engkabau.

The 24-year-old male driver was confirmed dead at the scene. His body has since been sent to Kapit Hospital for post-mortem procedures. Meanwhile, a 40-year-old male passenger sustained severe injuries and was first treated at the Song Health Centre before being transferred to hospital for further medical care.

Song District Police Chief DSP Benedict Faris bin Jimoy confirmed the details of the case, which is now being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. This section covers offences related to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Authorities have reminded all road users to comply strictly with traffic regulations, including holding valid driving licences, wearing seatbelts, adhering to speed limits, and exercising caution while driving. Police emphasised that compliance is essential to prevent accidents and safeguard lives.

The accident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety along the Song-Kapit route, which has seen increased traffic in recent years. Enforcement agencies continue to stress the importance of vigilance and responsible driving to reduce risks on highways.

DSP Benedict reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring public safety and urged the community to remain cautious on the roads. The Royal Malaysia Police continues to monitor traffic conditions and enforce regulations to protect all road users.
