SRI AMAN – Firefighters from the Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station contained a roadside fire along Jalan Skait on 16 August, preventing the flames from spreading towards a nearby palm plantation.
The incident was reported at 9.44am after the station received information about a fire burning beside the road in the Skait area.
The operation was led by PBK II (TBK I) Edwin anak Jonani, who responded with personnel using a Scania Fire and Rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle.
Firefighters arrived equipped with full personal protective equipment before beginning suppression work at the site.
The team used an engine pump and one hose line to tackle the fire. A 100-foot hose delivery line connected to a Tohatsu transport pump drawing water from an open source was also deployed during the operation.
The firefighting effort focused on stopping the fire from spreading beyond the roadside area and towards the adjacent palm plantation.
JBPM estimated that the fire affected approximately 0.5 acres.
Firefighters successfully extinguished the entire estimated affected area, covering about 0.5 acres, according to the operation report.
After confirming that the fire had been brought under control and no further spread was taking place, the team concluded its work at the location.
The responding personnel and equipment subsequently returned to the Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station.
The incident highlights the importance of rapid response to roadside fires, particularly in areas close to agricultural land or plantations where flames could spread beyond the initial location.
Vegetation fires can become more difficult to contain if they reach surrounding agricultural areas, making early intervention an important part of preventing wider damage.
In this case, firefighters were able to deploy water lines directly to the affected area and contain the blaze before it spread to the nearby palm plantation.
The operation was carried out by the Alpha Team from the Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station.
No injuries or victims were reported in the operation report.
JBPM’s response involved both firefighting and emergency response resources, with the Scania fire tender and EMRS vehicle deployed to support the operation.
The successful suppression of the 0.5-acre fire brought the incident to an end without the reported spread into the plantation.
The Sri Aman station continues to respond to fire incidents within its operational area, with rapid assessment and suppression forming key parts of its emergency response.
