BINTULU: Member of Parliament for Bintulu, Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing, has called on residents to fully cooperate with volunteer teams working tirelessly on post-flood clean-up efforts. He emphasized that cleaning up after the recent floods is no easy task, and volunteers from the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Zong Ho Friendship Society, and other organizations are giving their best to restore affected areas.
“These volunteers are working hard to clean up and transport the garbage to the landfill. I urge all residents to place waste at designated collection points or bins regularly,” said Tiong in a Facebook post today.
He highlighted that failing to follow proper waste disposal procedures could cause volunteers to clean the same area multiple times, slowing down the overall operation.
The volunteers, according to Tiong, are not only contributing their time and energy but also bringing their own equipment, such as lorries and excavators, to ensure the clean-up runs smoothly. However, there are limitations in some areas.
“Since heavy vehicles cannot access certain residential areas, I request that residents move their garbage to collection points that are easily accessible,” he advised.
Tiong, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, announced that the volunteer-driven clean-up efforts will wrap up by the end of the week. He urged residents to dispose of their waste within the next few days before the task is handed over to the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA).
“After this week, BDA will manage waste collection, but the process may take longer. I hope residents will act immediately and cooperate to make this process smoother for everyone,” he concluded.
