Early Morning Fire Destroys Semi-D House in Taman Lee Ling

KUCHING, 24 May 2025 – A quiet morning in Taman Lee Ling, Matang turned into a terrifying scene when a single-storey semi-detached house was engulfed in flames, leaving the structure almost entirely destroyed.

According to a spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGO), the department received an emergency call at 4.53am. In response, fire personnel from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were quickly dispatched to the location.

Upon their arrival, they found the house—a permanent structure measuring 30×60 square feetalmost completely ablaze.

“The house was nearly 100 percent on fire when our team reached the scene,” said the PGO spokesperson.

The team immediately began extinguishing the flames using two water streams and three nozzles, drawing water from a nearby fire hydrant. Thanks to their swift and efficient efforts, the fire was brought under control and prevented from spreading to nearby properties.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. At the time of reporting, the cause of the fire and the total estimated losses remain under investigation by relevant authorities.

Residents in the area expressed shock at the intensity of the fire, with some saying they were awakened by the smell of smoke and the glow of the flames.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety, especially during the early hours when most people are still asleep. Authorities urge the public to check their home wiring, avoid overloading sockets, and install smoke detectors where possible.
