PM Anwar Strengthens Ties with Kota Kinabalu Chinese Community

KOTA KINABALU – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim spent the evening in Bukit Padang, engaging with the Chinese community of Kota Kinabalu as part of his ongoing outreach in Sabah.

The gathering underscored his administration’s emphasis on unity across Malaysia’s diverse ethnic and regional groups, which he described as the foundation of the MADANI Government’s strength.

Anwar told attendees that Malaysia’s progress is beginning to show tangible results, citing rapid economic growth, rising investments, a strengthening ringgit, and renewed international recognition.

He stressed that these achievements are not abstract but are channelled directly back to the people through targeted allocations and development projects.

Central to his remarks was the government’s commitment to Sabah, which has been allocated RM17 billion under Budget 2026, the highest among all states.

The Prime Minister said this funding is aimed at resolving long-standing issues that have burdened Sabahans, including water supply, electricity shortages, and poor road conditions.

“We are not talking nonsense, but proving it with action,” Anwar declared, highlighting specific allocations:

  • RM1.2 billion to improve electricity supply in Sabah, despite energy management being under the State Government.
  • Over RM1 billion since last year to ensure clean water supply reaches communities across the state.
  • RM2 billion for the MADANI Submarine Cable Connection Project (SALAM), which will enhance internet connectivity through routes linking Tuaran, Kudat, Pulau Banggi, Sandakan, and Tawau.

He emphasised that these measures reflect the government’s determination to deliver concrete improvements to everyday life in Sabah, rather than relying on rhetoric.

“We will continue to work harder to elevate the dignity of the people and this state with tangible actions and results that can be felt together,” he said.

The evening’s engagement also carried symbolic weight, as Anwar reiterated that Malaysia’s development depends on harnessing the collective strength of its people across all races and regions.

By meeting with the Chinese community in Kota Kinabalu, he reinforced the message of inclusivity and unity that underpins the MADANI agenda.

Observers note that the Prime Minister’s focus on infrastructure, connectivity, and welfare aligns with broader efforts to ensure Sabah’s rights and needs are prioritised.

His remarks come at a politically significant time, with the 17th Sabah State Election approaching, making community engagements such as this crucial in shaping public confidence.
