KUCHING, May 31 – Sarawak State Ruler Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has extended Wesak Day greetings to Buddhists in Sarawak and across Malaysia, highlighting the importance of peace, unity, and mutual respect in maintaining harmony within the country’s diverse society.
In a message issued in conjunction with the annual Buddhist celebration, Tun Wan Junaidi, together with Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, who is currently performing the Hajj pilgrimage in the Holy Land, conveyed their best wishes to all Buddhists celebrating Wesak Day.
Tun Wan Junaidi described Wesak Day as a meaningful occasion that carries important values such as peace, love, tolerance, and compassion for fellow human beings. He said these values are essential in strengthening the harmonious relationship among people of different races, cultures, and religions in Sarawak.
According to him, Sarawak has long been recognised for its strong spirit of understanding and respect among its diverse communities. He stressed that these qualities should continue to be preserved and nurtured as they have played a significant role in ensuring the state’s stability, peace, and development over the years.
The Sarawak State Ruler also urged the people to remain united in facing various challenges affecting communities today. He noted that global economic uncertainties, rapid technological developments, as well as humanitarian and environmental issues require a collective effort and strong cooperation among all members of society.
He said the values of togetherness, consensus, and mutual support are more important than ever in helping communities adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining social harmony. By working together, he added, Sarawakians can face future challenges in a mature and responsible manner.
Tun Wan Junaidi further described Sarawak’s rich diversity of races, cultures, and beliefs as one of the state’s greatest strengths. He said this unique heritage should continue to be protected and appreciated for the benefit of future generations.
He expressed hope that this year’s Wesak Day celebration would not only be observed as a religious occasion but would also serve as an opportunity to strengthen bonds among communities. He encouraged the public to embrace charitable activities and uphold humanitarian values that contribute to a caring and inclusive society.
