MUKAH – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) successfully destroyed a large wasp nest in Mukah on 16 June 2026, following a report received from GIATMARA Mukah.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) in Mukah was alerted to the presence of the nest, which had been discovered in a bush near the premises.
Witnesses described the nest as being approximately the size of a football, raising concerns about the potential danger to nearby residents and staff.
Upon arrival, APM members assessed the situation and prepared the necessary equipment to ensure the operation could be carried out safely.
The team employed insecticide spraying, specifically Ridsect, combined with controlled burning to neutralise the nest. The procedure was completed without incident, and the area was declared secure.
Officials confirmed that no injuries or unwanted events occurred during the operation. The swift response prevented possible harm, as wasp stings can pose serious risks, particularly to individuals with allergies.
The destruction of the nest also reduced the likelihood of further infestations in the area. APM Mukah emphasised the importance of community cooperation in reporting such hazards.
The agency noted that immediate reporting allows trained personnel to act quickly, minimising risks to the public.
Residents were reminded that attempting to remove insect nests without professional assistance can be dangerous and should be avoided.
This incident highlights the readiness of APM Mukah to respond to diverse emergencies, ranging from wildlife encounters to environmental hazards.
The agency continues to encourage vigilance among the public and reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding communities across Sarawak.
For emergencies, residents are advised to contact APM Mukah at 084-872814, which operates 24 hours a day.
