UiTM Sarawak Brisk Walk 2026 Promotes Health and Unity

KOTA SAMARAHAN – More than 200 participants gathered at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak Branch, Samarahan Campus 2, on Sunday morning for the ePJJ Brisk Walk 2026 Vol. 1.

The event was organised by the Part-Time Student Association together with students from the SR243 Bachelor of Sports and Recreation Science programme under the Institute of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (iCEPS).

The initiative carried the theme Stride Beyond Limits: Nurturing a Healthy Mind & New Spirit, highlighting the importance of physical activity in maintaining overall well-being.

The walk brought together part-time students and their families, reinforcing the values of community spirit and shared responsibility for health.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Associate Professor Dr Abdul Razak Abdul Kadir, Assistant Rector of Samarahan Campus 2, who represented the Rector of the UiTM Sarawak Branch.

He emphasised that both physical fitness and mental resilience are vital in navigating the demands of modern life.

Dr Abdul Razak noted that brisk walking is a simple yet effective exercise, offering benefits such as improved cardiovascular health, enhanced stamina and better emotional balance.

Also present was Dr Azlina Bujang, Head of the iCEPS School of Studies. She echoed the sentiment that such programmes align with UiTM’s mission to nurture graduates who excel academically while maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

The university aims to produce individuals who are not only career-ready but also socially responsible and physically active.

Dr Abdul Razak expressed hope that the Brisk Walk could become an annual fixture, expanding participation to include alumni, local residents and strategic partners.

He commended the strong sense of unity displayed by participants, describing it as a reflection of UiTM’s culture of teamwork and family values.

Beyond promoting wellness, the event also served as a platform to introduce the Bachelor of Sports and Recreation Science (Honours) programme.

The course focuses on sports science, fitness, recreation and management, preparing students to contribute to the growing sports and recreation industry in Malaysia.

UiTM sees this as part of its commitment to improving community quality of life through education and healthy living practices.
