SIBU – A road accident at the Pulaun Dudong Roundabout along Jalan Sibu-Durin in Sibu claimed one life and left two others injured on 16 June 2026.
The incident involved a Honda City and a Toyota Hilux, which collided at approximately 5 kilometres from the Sibu Jaya Fire and Rescue Station.
The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (BBP Sibu Jaya) was dispatched to the scene under the command of PBK I Badrulhisam, supported by a team of five personnel.
Upon arrival, responders discovered three adult male victims. The driver of the Honda City was trapped inside the vehicle and later confirmed dead by medical officers from the Ministry of Health.
The passenger of the same car sustained serious injuries but was not trapped, while the driver of the Toyota Hilux suffered minor injuries.
Rescue personnel employed the SAVER method to stabilise the injured passenger before transferring him to an ambulance.
The trapped driver was extricated using rescue tools and subsequently handed over to the police for further action. The Hilux driver received medical attention at the scene.
The operation was carried out in coordination with multiple agencies, including three officers from Sibu Hospital, five members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) from Sibu Jaya and the traffic unit.
After the rescue was completed, fire personnel conducted flushing work to clear oil stains from the road surface, ensuring the area was safe for traffic.
Authorities confirmed that the operation was concluded smoothly, with machinery and personnel returning to the station in good condition.
The incident highlights the importance of swift inter-agency cooperation in managing road accidents, particularly those involving trapped victims.
The Fire and Rescue Department expressed appreciation for the professionalism and efficiency of all agencies involved, noting that their combined efforts ensured the situation was handled effectively.
