KAPIT – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Kapit successfully handled a snake-catching case on 16 June 2026 after receiving an emergency call about a reptile spotted near a residential property at KM 4 Sebilat Jaya, Jalan Bukit Goram.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) was alerted at 20:23 hrs when a complainant reported the presence of a snake at the back of his house.
The call was sourced through TM, prompting an immediate response from APM Kapit. Four members were dispatched to the location, covering a one-way distance of 15 kilometres. The team arrived at 20:30 hrs and began searching the area based on the information provided.
They soon identified the snake as a spitting cobra, approximately one metre in length and the thickness of a thumb. Using the pinning technique, the officers managed to secure the reptile safely without incident.
The operation was completed by 2040 hrs, and the squad returned to PKOD at 21:19 hrs with all equipment and logistics intact.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries or damage occurred during the assignment, and the situation was brought under control swiftly.
Officials reminded residents that snakes often enter populated areas in search of food or shelter, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
While spitting cobras are venomous and can pose serious risks, trained personnel are equipped to handle such cases safely.
APM Kapit emphasised the importance of contacting emergency services rather than attempting to capture snakes independently.
The agency continues to encourage vigilance and cooperation from the public, stressing that immediate reporting helps prevent accidents and ensures rapid intervention.
The successful capture highlights APM Kapit’s readiness to respond to wildlife-related emergencies across the district.
Residents are urged to remain alert and to contact APM Kapit directly for assistance in similar situations. For emergencies, the public can reach APM Kapit through its 24-hour hotline.
