Proper upkeep of roadside drains is essential in reducing the risk of water pooling on roads, which can cause inconvenience to motorists and pose safety hazards.

Council representatives explained that the maintenance work forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure resilience across Miri.

Regular inspections and cleaning are scheduled in areas prone to waterlogging, particularly during the rainy season.

Residents in Lorong Muhibbah have welcomed the initiative, noting that clogged drains often result in stagnant water, which not only damages road surfaces but also creates breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

The council’s proactive measures are expected to improve both road safety and public health. The Miri City Council has urged the public to cooperate by avoiding littering and disposing of waste responsibly, as rubbish is a common cause of drain blockages.

Community participation, they stressed, is vital in ensuring the long-term effectiveness of drainage systems.

This latest round of maintenance reflects the council’s broader commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure and safeguarding residents against flood risks.

By addressing drainage issues promptly, the council aims to minimise disruptions and maintain a cleaner, safer environment for the community.
