KUCHING – The Sarawak Police Commissioner, YDH CP Datuk Mohamad Zainal bin Haji Abdullah, welcomed a courtesy visit from the Secretary of the Election Commission of Malaysia (ECM), YBhg. Datuk Khairul Shahril bin Idrus, at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters on 15 June 2026.
The meeting was held in the guest room of the headquarters and focused on strengthening cooperation between the police and the Election Commission ahead of upcoming elections.

Both parties emphasised the importance of preparedness and collaboration in safeguarding the democratic process.
Officials highlighted that such engagements are crucial in building trust and ensuring operational readiness.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) plays a central role in maintaining order during elections, and discussions centred on enhancing training and deployment strategies to meet the demands of large-scale electoral events.
The Election Commission underscored the need for seamless coordination to guarantee transparency and efficiency. Also present at the meeting were senior police officers and representatives from the Election Commission.
Attendees included YDH DCP Saifullizan bin Ishak, Deputy Commissioner of Sarawak Police; SAC Mahbub Mustofa bin Norsalim, Head of Sarawak Special Branch; and ACP Faizul bin Muhammad, Commander of Sarawak PGU.
Also in attendance were ACP James anak Jonathan, Administrative Staff Officer of the Sarawak Management Department; and Supt. Samima binti Mustapha, Deputy KJKDNKA Sarawak. Delegations from both the national and state-level Election Commission were also in attendance.
The courtesy visit reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional cooperation in Sarawak. With elections approaching, authorities are keen to reassure the public that measures are in place to uphold safety and integrity.
Police leadership reiterated their commitment to supporting the Election Commission in ensuring that the electoral process is conducted fairly and without disruption.
Such engagements are part of a wider national practice where the Election Commission regularly liaises with law enforcement agencies to review strategies and address potential challenges.
In Sarawak, where logistical considerations can be complex due to geography and infrastructure, these discussions are particularly significant.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their dedication to maintaining public confidence in the electoral system.
By working closely together, the Election Commission and the police aim to deliver a secure and orderly election process for the people of Sarawak.
