BETONG – A potentially dangerous situation was averted on Tuesday morning after a snake was discovered inside a generator engine at a workplace in Betong.
The incident was reported to the Betong District Civil Defence Force (APM) by a worker who noticed the reptile while preparing to start the generator.
Concerned for his safety and that of colleagues, the complainant immediately contacted APM for assistance.
Responders arrived promptly and confirmed that the snake was still lodged within the engine compartment.
Using specialised equipment and safe handling techniques, the team carried out a capture operation. The reptile was identified as a Cincin Emas snake, measuring approximately two feet in length.
The snake was successfully removed using the pincer technique, ensuring no injuries to the public or the personnel involved. The operation was completed smoothly, with the workplace declared safe following the intervention.
Authorities highlighted that the incident demonstrates the importance of vigilance in industrial and workplace settings, particularly where machinery may provide hiding places for wildlife.
The Civil Defence Force stressed that attempting to handle snakes without professional expertise can be extremely dangerous.
