MATU – A swift operation was carried out by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Matu District after a sizeable wasp nest was discovered along Jalan Sekaan, Jemoremg, on Monday, 22 June 2026.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received an emergency call reporting the presence of the nest, which was described as being roughly the size of a football.
It had formed within bushes on the roadside, raising concerns for motorists and pedestrians in the area. Upon arriving at the location, APM personnel were guided by the complainant to the exact site of the nest.
Officers then prepared the necessary protective gear and equipment before commencing the removal process.
Safety protocols were followed to ensure the operation did not pose risks to the public or the team involved.
The removal was conducted using insecticide sprays, including Ridsect, combined with controlled fire application.
This method ensured the nest was fully neutralised, preventing further danger from the aggressive insects. Once completed, the area was declared safe, and traffic flow resumed without disruption.
Local authorities emphasised the importance of community vigilance in reporting such hazards. Wasp nests, particularly those of significant size, can pose serious risks to individuals who inadvertently disturb them.
