BINTULU – A joint enforcement operation conducted by the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Bintulu Division and the Region 5 Marine Police Force resulted in the detention of 100 foreign nationals suspected of violating immigration laws.
The operation, which combined Ops Selera, Ops Gegar, and Ops Belanja, began at 1.00 am on 21 June and concluded at 8.00 am on 22 June 2026.
A total of 27 enforcement personnel were deployed across eight locations in Bintulu, carrying out inspections on both locals and foreigners.
Authorities reported that 124 individuals were checked during the operation. Of these, 100 foreigners were detained, comprising 83 men, 15 women, and two boys.
The detainees are suspected of committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
Among the violations identified were overstaying under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, failure to hold valid passes or permits under Section 6(1)(c), and non-compliance with pass conditions under Regulation 39(b). These offences carry serious penalties, including detention and deportation.
The Immigration Department emphasised that enforcement operations of this nature are part of ongoing efforts to uphold national laws and safeguard community welfare.
Officials stated that strict action will continue to be taken against individuals who flout immigration regulations, with operations intensified to detect and arrest offenders.
The collaboration between JIM and the Marine Police highlights the importance of inter-agency cooperation in tackling immigration-related offences.
By combining resources and expertise, the agencies aim to ensure effective monitoring and enforcement across Sarawak’s districts.
Immigration challenges remain a pressing issue in Bintulu, a hub for industrial and commercial activity that attracts both local and foreign workers.
