Rela, a uniformed volunteer corps, has long been active in Sarawak, assisting with social initiatives, community safety, and public events. The appreciation dinner was organised to highlight the commitment of its members, many of whom devote significant time and effort to supporting neighbourhood activities and strengthening community resilience.

Chairman of the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Councillor Tan Kai, attended the dinner and commended the spirit of volunteerism demonstrated by Rela members. He emphasised that their work reflects the values of inclusivity and cooperation, which are central to Sarawak’s development agenda under the Post-COVID Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“Being a uniform organisation, Rela is actively involved in all kinds of social work. The appreciation dinner is to appreciate their hard work and the spirit of volunteerism. Sarawak is heading towards PCDS 2030, spirit of helping each other is essential in order to achieve social inclusivity,” said Cr. Tan Kai during his address.

The PCDS 2030 framework outlines Sarawak’s vision for sustainable growth, focusing on economic progress, social inclusivity, and environmental balance. Volunteer organisations such as Rela play a vital role in ensuring that communities remain cohesive and prepared to face challenges together.

The dinner also served as a platform to strengthen ties among members and reaffirm their commitment to ongoing service. Guests highlighted the importance of recognising volunteer contributions, noting that appreciation events encourage continued participation and inspire younger generations to get involved.

Rela’s involvement in community programmes ranges from assisting with crowd control during public events to supporting disaster relief efforts. Their presence is often seen as a reassuring factor in maintaining order and safety, particularly during large gatherings.

Community leaders at the event stressed that volunteerism is not only about service but also about fostering unity. By working together, organisations like Rela help bridge social divides and promote a culture of mutual support.

The appreciation dinner concluded with renewed pledges from members to continue serving the community. Organisers expressed gratitude to all who attended and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding Rela’s role in future initiatives.

As Sarawak advances towards its PCDS 2030 goals, the contributions of volunteer organisations remain indispensable. The recognition of Rela Batu Lintang B underscores the importance of collective effort in achieving a more inclusive and resilient society.
