The festival, scheduled to take place from 22 to 26 July at the Bintulu Old Airport, is expected to draw participants and visitors from across the globe.

Organisers have been working tirelessly to finalise arrangements, including the installation of tents, construction of sandbars, and provision of electricity and water supplies.

Banners and promotional materials are being placed at strategic locations to raise awareness, while logistical coordination is being refined to ensure the comfort of participants, exhibitors, and spectators throughout the five-day event.

In addition to infrastructure works, efforts are underway to brighten up the international participant visit area at Taman Tumbina, Bintulu.

Painting, cleaning, and landscaping activities are being carried out to create a welcoming environment for delegations and visitors from both Malaysia and abroad.

The BIKF has long been recognised as one of Sarawak’s premier tourism events, combining cultural celebration with international sportsmanship.

The 2026 edition promises to elevate the festival’s profile further, showcasing colourful kites against the Bintulu skyline while promoting Sarawak as a destination for world-class events.

Authorities have expressed appreciation to all agencies, strategic partners, contractors, and staff involved in the preparations.

Their cooperation and commitment have been described as crucial to the success of the festival, ensuring that every phase of planning is executed efficiently.

The Borneo International Kite Festival has historically attracted participants from numerous countries, with past editions featuring kite enthusiasts from Asia, Europe, and beyond.

The 2026 event is expected to continue this tradition, reinforcing Bintulu’s reputation as a hub for cultural exchange and tourism. Beyond its visual spectacle, the festival plays an important role in stimulating the local economy.

Hotels, restaurants, and small businesses in Bintulu anticipate increased activity during the event, while residents benefit from the influx of visitors and the opportunities created by international exposure.

The festival also serves as a platform for community engagement, encouraging local involvement in cultural promotion and event management.

By combining international participation with grassroots support, BIKF demonstrates how tourism can be harnessed to strengthen both cultural identity and economic growth.

As the countdown continues, organisers remain confident that BIKF 2026 will deliver an unforgettable experience.

With vibrant displays, international delegations, and strong community backing, the festival is poised to once again transform the skies of Bintulu into a canvas of colour and creativity.
