The incident was reported at 12.53pm, prompting immediate mobilisation of four APM members to the location. The team arrived at 1.00pm and quickly identified the snake under a table at the complainant’s premises.

The snake, described as a tree snake approximately 1.5 metres long and the thickness of a pen, was safely captured using the pincer technique.

The operation was completed by 1.10pm without any untoward incidents, and the team returned to the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) at 1.32pm with all equipment and logistics intact.

Snake encounters are a recurring hazard in Sarawak, particularly in residential and semi-rural areas. While many species are non-venomous, their presence can cause fear and pose risks to residents, especially children and the elderly.

Civil Defence teams are trained to handle such situations safely, ensuring minimal harm to both the public and the animal.

The Kapit Civil Defence Force emphasised the importance of public cooperation in reporting such incidents promptly. Quick communication allows emergency responders to act swiftly and reduce risks to the community.

Authorities also reminded residents to avoid attempting to catch snakes themselves, as improper handling can lead to injuries.

Instead, the public is advised to contact the Kapit APM line or dial the national emergency number for assistance.

This operation highlights the readiness and professionalism of the Kapit Civil Defence Force in managing diverse emergencies beyond natural disasters.

Their swift response reassures residents of their safety and reinforces confidence in the department’s ability to protect communities.
